Through its subsidiary Bonacieux Energies, Groupement Les Mousquetaires, a major player in the French retail sector, has signed its first contracts for the purchase of electricity from wind farms with Kallista Energy, an independent producer of renewable energy. These cPPAs (Corporate Power Purchase Agreements) will enable Groupement Les Mousquetaires to further secure its electricity supply from production sites located close to its own sales outlets, and will enable Kallista Energy to finance the repowering of 3 additional wind farms.
Kallista Energy is preparing the repowering of 3 wind farms in Les Hauts de France, for a total of 35.2 MW. The turbines on these farms will be replaced by more efficient machines that will produce more electricity with the same number of turbines. The wind farms will be commissioned in 2024.
All the electricity produced by these 3 wind farms, i.e. around 100 GWh per year, will be purchased by Le Groupement Les Mousquetaires, through its subsidiary Bonacieux Energies, for a period of 20 years.
These cPPAs will enable Groupement Les Mousquetaires to further secure its electricity supply while moving closer to its target of renewable electricity in its energy consumption. Purchase agreements for electricity from wind energy are a first for the Groupement Les Mousquetaires, which has previously signed cPPAs for photovoltaic electricity.
“We are very proud to be working with Groupement Les Mousquetaires on their first wind power purchase agreements. Thanks to this new 20-year partnership, we will very quickly be able to renew our 3 wind farms, which are among the oldest in our portfolio, and thus make a greater contribution to the move away from fossil fuels. The fact that major companies that are leaders in their markets, such as Groupement Les Mousquetaires, are choosing to turn to wind power is further proof of the competitiveness of this energy and of the need to speed up its development in order to electrify all areas of our economy as quickly as possible“, explains Frédéric Roche, CEO of Kallista Energy.
“Since 2021, the Groupement has been diversifying its electricity supplies by signing more cPPAs. This new partnership is part of our drive to reduce our energy costs and limit the exposure of our outlets to the volatility of energy market prices. For these first wind energy cPPAs, we chose Kallista Energy because of its long-standing presence in France, and because of the opportunity to participate in the renewal of wind farms, the oldest of which has been in operation since 2007. This approach is also in line with our strategy of decarbonising our activities“, explains Bruno Breyne, Intermarché business manager, head of Les Mousquetaires Group’s Energy Department.
